
Sibel Atasoy
Economic Development Specialist
Sibel joined the Office of Economic Development in January 2007 as an Economic Development Associate. In 2008 she was promoted to Economic Development Specialist. Along with her work at OED, she is currently continuing her PhD studies at the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. In addition to her main focus on economic impact analysis, Sibel’s responsibilities in OED are to work on an array ofapplied economic research and technical assistance projects at a local and regional level. Sibel’s contributions to OED will include economic modeling, description and analysis of economic data, and policy analysis.
Sibel earned her B.S. in Economics from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey, and her M.S. in Resource Economics and Policy from the University of Maine. Her interest in rural and regional economic development was shaped mostly by her M.S. thesis work titled “The Economic Impact and Importance of Microbusinesses to the New England Economy.” This was recognized by the university community, local economic development officials, and the business leaders in the state as an important contribution, as it improved the understanding of the role these businesses played in local communities throughout New England.
